Pastor Tom's Bi-Monthly Message
January & February,  2012

As we get used to writing 2012 on our checks and letters, may we take some time to give thanks for God for seeing us into a New Year, and to dedicate this New Year to him. It is God that gives us our daily breath, and without his control this world and our lives would cease to exist. It is proper that we pause to remember this and give thanks to God for his care.
In the New Year we will be diving into the first 11 chapters of the book of Exodus. This is a book about God delivering his people from a land of slavery and bringing them to the Promised Land. God's power is displayed in the plagues and in the parting of the Red Sea. God's provision is seen in the daily manna and supply of water in the desert. God's presence is seen in the burning bush, in the theophany of Mt. Sinai, and the tabernacle's holy of holies. God's promise is proven true as the children of Abraham receive the land promised to their forefather. The book ends with Israelites just outside of the Promised Land and leadership handed over to Joshua who will bring them into the land.
The Book of Exodus is history that is dateable and verifiable, but it is also a picture for us today. It is a picture that the book of Revelation builds upon, with the deliverer of God's people coming to them with power and God bringing his children from a land of slavery (to sin) to the promised land (heaven).
In our time leading up to Easter we will journey with the children of Israel up through the Passover, the decisive event that won their freedom. We will close our series with the ultimate Passover Lamb killed for the redemption of God's children when we remember the events of Good Friday and celebrate Easter Sunday. We rejoice that Christ has gone ahead of us into the Promised Land to make a place for us to join him.
We continue in our vigilant expectation of Christ's return, knowing that the hour is near, and we seek to be found obedient to our Master.
Join us in looking back into history and forward into the promise as we on Sunday mornings listen to the great story of deliverance.

          Looking forward,
          Pastor Tom
